Case study: Computer Vision Applied in Satellite Imagery for Forest Fire Detection
Forest fires pose a significant threat to ecosystems and human lives, necessitating prompt and accurate detection to manage risks effectively. Our team has developed a sophisticated computer vision solution for forest fire detection using satellite imagery, integrating advanced image processing techniques and AI algorithms. Detecting forest fires in real-time from satellite images involves processing vast amounts of data swiftly and accurately.
We created a comprehensive software solution that leverages image processing and computer vision algorithms to analyze real-time satellite images for signs of forest fires. This system incorporates several advanced techniques to ensure high accuracy and reliability, such as denoising algorithms, Saliency Maps and Integrated Gradients. We have leveraged Captum library alongside PyTorch for identifying which pixel areas significantly influence the model's decisions. Class Activation Maps (CAMs) and Grad-CAMs are visualization techniques which were essential in showing which parts of the image is the most important.
